Snapshot Friday

This lady is stylin'.  Actually, this whole thing is pretty much on-point.  From the awesome floral TV trays to the cat decor behind her, she's got it going on.  She's even got a flower in her hair-do!  I like this lady.  I wish I could have been there to see the colors of everything.  I bet those trays and her top are super bright.  So awesome.

Snapshot Friday!

Since it's Friday, I know most of you are winding down and getting ready to have a fun weekend.  Like these guys...
I hope you have a great one!  For me, it's my Monday.  Blah.  Oh well, I can still put a smile on my face- thanks to this photo.

P.S.  Um, yeah.  Loving the shorts with the suit coat.  Or do you think they're laughing because he's partying so hard he lost his pants?  Don't get so wild that you lose your pants this weekend.

Snapshot Friday!

This creepy little kid reminds me of a young Vincent D'Onofrio.

Speaking of creepy, anyone have exciting Halloween plans?!  Mine will be pretty tame.  I think the highlight of the weekend will be trying to dress up my pets.

Snapshot Friday!

Someone was obviously impressed by the gams on this gal!

In fact, they were so impressed they had to write it twice.

A bargain at .25, wouldn't you say?  It makes me curious to see what the rest of this scrapbook looked like.

I'm looking forward to this weekend off from work.  I've got lots of Halloween prep in the works.  It's been hard to get into the holiday mood since the weather refuses to turn into fall here in CA, so I'm going to force it along.  I think it's time to decorate!  I need some pumpkins around this joint.  Be back soon!

Snapshot Friday!

My guy is the best!  He brought me to a place that has enough old photos for sale to have Snapshot Friday for the rest of my life.  Now you guys don't have to look at my boring ol' photos on Fridays anymore....if I posted one, I've been so bad lately.

I'm happy because I've missed the old timey photo Fridays.  I can't wait to go pick out some more from my new favorite store.

Look at the handsome devil I have for you guys today.
Gorgeous, huh?!  Kind of reminds me of Gene Kelly.  And that deckle edge?  Swoon.  This one definitely has me longing for a bygone era.

I've got a ton of projects to share with you guys, once my sorry butt gets them in the mail.  See you soon!  I have the weekend off and plan on spending a lot of time working on bloggy/etsy stuff.  Hopefully making up for my extreme lack of activity around these parts lately.

Snapshot Friday

Ok, so the end pages will be a later post... Senor Camera is nowhere to be found at the moment.

Isn't this photo amazing?

It's Dillon's great grandparents on their wedding day.  I think it was in 1898.  Wow, I just love everything about it.  The background, their clothes, their expressions.  Everything.  Such a drastic difference compared to the weddings photos of today.

A big thank you to his Mom for sending it to me!

Snapshot Friday!

Hello, folks!  Happy Friday to everyone out there.

Besides stitchy stuff, I've also been working on a few kids projects the last few days.  I'm absolutely loving the way they're turning out and can't wait to share!  In honor of all the fun I've been having with this stuff, I thought I'd makes this week's photo a little guy.

What a cutie, huh?

What have you been working on this week?

Snapshot Friday!

This week just flew by!  It's that time again already.  For those of you who are new around here, every Friday I feature vintage photos.  Some are from my collection, others are from vintage yearbooks.  Once in a blue moon someone nice will contact me and want me to feature their old photos.  Don't hesitate to do that if you want to share some of your old gems.  Even better if there's a story behind them.

On to today's goodies.
I wonder what this group is getting ready for or commemorating.

I have another one with the lady that's front and center.

I wish that this one was in better shape, it's such an interesting photo in terms of the people.  It seems like every person has been randomly placed in there.   They don't even look like they're in the same room, especially the starlet in the front corner.  Wouldn't you say?

I'll be back later with some journal junk!
Thanks for looking.  Have a craftastic day.

Snapshot Friday!

This how I've been feeling today... all week, in fact.  Happy and laid back.  I'm loving everyone and everything.  Life is grand.

Maybe it's the weather.  Maybe it's all the creating I've been doing lately.  I don't know, but either way, it's going to take a lot to rain on my parade.

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!  Any fun plans?  I'll be working on swaps, doing a bit of painting and a bit of gardening too.  This weekend is the Harmony Festival.  Steel Pulse, Lauryn Hill...it's going to be a great time, but it wasn't in the cards for us.  Too bad I can't just sneak into the Bazaar part.  There is always a huge Craft Market with handmade goods from around the world!  Can you picture it, "I swear, Officer.  I'm just here to buy some crafty stuff.  You know, like stationary and pretty stuff!?"  Right, that would go over well.

Snapshot Friday!

It's that time of year again, school's out and everyone is getting ready for a little fun in the sun.  Unfortunately the weather isn't cooperating at the moment, it's just a tad gloomy for fun in the sun around here.

I'll probably spend most of my weekend stitching.  Despite being up to my elbows in stuff to do, I bought 3 new embroidery patterns on etsy yesterday.  After hearing the tragic news of Rue McClanahan's passing, I thought a little retail therapy was in order.  It didn't help much but I did have a great time thinking up incredibly perverted things to say all day, Blanche would have been proud.  RIP Rue.

Anyone have big plans for the weekend?  Making something great?

Snapshot Friday!

Hello, lovely readers!  Welcome to this edition of Snaphot Friday!  I was thrilled to remember this photo that I'm sharing with you today.  It's just in time for Easter.  It's one of my favorites but sadly it is another communal art box refugee, so it is in very poor shape.  I would love to get it restored someday but until then I'll frame it and put it away.  If I ever become one of those ladies who decorates for holidays, I whip it out for the festivities.  It won't be out of place as there are tons of photos of strangers around our place.  Is that weird?

(Click on to enlarge.)

Isn't it sweet?
I wish I knew their names.  There is lovely handwriting on the back, but as you can see by the edge it's been mounted onto matte board so you can't read it.  Although, I can make out "Easter Sunday" on the top edge.  Trying to remove it would just damage it further.  I know this for sure- I tried to get a little glimpse at the year.

Check out the little girl's matching coat and bonnet.  The scalloped edge by the buttons is just darling.  And the baby's jumper- the material on the cuffs of the pants matches his little shirt.  Accckkkk!  It's all just so adorable, it's killing me.

I hope that you have a great weekend!  Thanks for looking.

Snapshot Friday!

Hello!  Welcome to a very special edition of Snapshot Friday.  Today's photos are brought to you by Kira from Oops!  I Craft My Pants.  She was nice enough to send in some lovely vintage photos of her family.  Thank you Kira!!

Kira informed me that she's from a very large family.  Her great-grandmother had 18 kids.  In 1957, she was awarded the title of Mother of the Year for the state of Montana.  They were even featured in the Saturday Evening Post, how cool is that?  That means Kira's dad is one of 65 grand children!  Wowee, that's a lot of names and birthdays to remember.

Check out some photos from the Rieger Family Reunion in 1959.
(Click on any picture to enlarge it.)
And now, the ladies only.

Now for a few older ones.

This is her great aunt, Ellie, relaxing with her dog.

And last but certainly not least, Kira's favorite!  (And mine too.)
Kira explained that this picture was taken in the 1940s at a family gathering.  There was a contest to for all of the ladies in attendance.  Each had to tell a "sob story" about why their life was the absolute worst.  Whoever won was to be crowned "Queen for a Day", isn't that great?  I love it.  She informed me that her grandmother, "the one on the right, with the smirk", was a runner-up.

This was the first time anyone has ever submitted photos for Snapshot Friday!  It was quite exciting to share something with you that was new to me as well.  So, a big thanks to Kira!

Snapshot Friday!

Welcome to today's late edition of Snapshot Friday!

Meet Ann!
Ann, meet all of my lovely readers.

I love her jewelry, check out that necklace!  I also like that she signed her picture.

Alright, now that I've made the introductions like a good hostess, I've got to get back to work.

Have a craftastic evening!

Snapshot Friday!

This week's sample is another communal supply box refugee swiped from my class a few years ago.  It's one of my favorites, but it makes me a little sad every time I see is because it's in such bad shape.  Poor little one.

Isn't she just darling with her little ringlets and teddy bear!?  I love the fancy chair outside too.  This one reminds me of a lovely ATC I received from Muchablige2.

Happy Memories.
The vintage photo she used is just too sweet.
Confession:  I have a strange obsession with twins.  I'm not really sure why.  It frightens my hubby.

Snapshot Friday!

Alright, this week's edition of Snapshot Friday is going to be a bit different.  I'm going a bit personal with it.  However, as both pictures are more than 20 years old, they officially fit the definition of vintage.  So, yeah. And please excuse the awkward cropping, I figured no one else had to be embarrassed along with me.

This is how I want to feel.

This is how I actually feel.

(You should feel privileged, this is one of the worst pictures of me.  Ever.  I've never shown anyone...until now.)
I look like some sort of jabroni saying (in a strong NY or Jersey accent) "OH! Whattaya doin?  Don't be takin' my picture!"

Yeah, long story short- surgery sucks!  Now, if you'll excuse me.  I'm off to take some wonderful pills and watch The Golden Girls.  Man, I love those mean ol' ladies!  (That reminds me- tune in tomorrow to see my latest etsy purchase.  I'll give you a hint- it has to do with The Golden Girls.)

Snapshot Friday!

It's that time again.  The time of the week when we bask in the glory of vintage photos, the good ol' days and wish for simpler times.  That's right, it's Snapshot Friday.

But first I want to thank all of the people who've entered the giveaways.  I'm in total shock at how well they've been received.  I never in a million years expected this kind of a turnout.  I said I wouldn't comment back so as to not throw off the numbers when it comes time to pick a winner.  It's been so hard not to, I want to respond to each and every comment.  Thanks guys- for all of your support and kind words.  And there's a little over a week left if you haven't entered.  You're welcome to enter both if you wish and I'll ship internationally.  So, try your luck!

This week's photos come from a surprise we received earlier in the week.

The 1964 edition of the Tartan, yearbook for University of California, Riverside.

Isn't she a beaut?  Dillon spotted this gem on Craigslist a few weeks ago.  The nice lady even offered to drop it off when she found out we don't get out her way very much.  (Thank you nice lady!)  After taking the dog out the other night, Dillon walked in with a bag.  Of course, this peaked my curiosity quite a bit.  I freaked when I saw what it was.  He never told me about it, so I was surprised that it made it's way to our house at that very moment.  I had just been talking about photos and Snapshot Friday, literally 10 minutes before he found it on the porch.  Isn't it funny how things work sometimes?  He had to fend me off so he and our roommate could take a look.  When I finally got my hands on it, I sat there for about an hour looking at every page.  And I do mean every page.  I'm such a nerd, I love this kind of stuff.  I hunted for funny names, checked out all of the stylish 'dos and exclaimed, "HA, check out his guy/gal!" several dozen times.  I had tons of fun.

(Click on any photos to view them larger)
Sorry about the dark corner on this one.  It's a beast of a book and refused to lay flat on the scanner.  It doesn't help that the binding appears to being faltering.  Usually I'm only extra, super gentle with babies and animals but this gem needs TLC.  I don't want any pages coming loose!

I love her glasses!  I want her glasses!

Over the next coming weeks I'll be sharing a bunch more of the Tartan 1964 with you guys.  There are so many great photos, even the advertising in the back is good.  Eventually, I hope to have the whole thing scanned and cataloged in my photostream on flickr.  I have tons of ideas for collages!

Thanks for looking.  Have a craftastic weekend!

Happy Holidays to all!

Snapshot Friday!

These two ladies are sporting the same hairdo.

I love this picture.  It looks like a such happy little family.  And just like mine, this dog looks like he loves to be the center of attention.

Since there are desks and typewriters on the left, this couple appears to be in some soft of office.  Hmmm, is this the naughty secretary/co-worker ?  Or wifey-poo?  Maybe both?  I'm not sure since this guy looks so serious while smoking on his pipe.

Happy Friday!  Have a craftastic weekend.
