Welcome to October! (Edited)

Around my house, this is how we can tell that it's October.
Forget a calendar or temperature changes, when our house is surrounded by GIANT Spiders, that's how we know that Fall has arrived.

When we moved in, years ago, it was right around Halloween and the whole place looked expertly decorated with cobwebs.  The shrubs outside looked like they belonged to a haunted house.  We quickly found out it was because we were moving into Spider Territory.  I also quickly learned that there was no use in screaming and rushing behind the Guy for protection.  He's not much better with them.  (Sorry, Babycakes.  You know it's the truth.)  EDIT: I want to assure everyone out there, that Dillon is not afraid of spiders.  My mistake.  He just doesn't like them on his head.   (Uh, yeah.  Don't know too many people who are fond of that, but I digress...) Okay, now that we're all clear on that, we can move on.

This particular Spidey has been living near our front door for a while now, quite close to face level.  He is much too big for me to try to get rid of.... (ughhh, I'm getting chills just thinking about it.)  If it is running towards me on the ground, yes, I will stomp it...furiously.  However, if it is up in a corner or minding it's business in a web, I will leave it alone.

Perhaps, I read Charlotte's Web too many times as a child.  Or maybe it's that there it's too much of a risk of it landing on me if I try to brush it down.  You decide.

You and me both! I've seen some crazy huge spiders out here in the mountains; one night I saw one try to climb in a crack in the pavement. I thought it would be a good idea to dump a glass of water to get him out then stomp on him, but no...he beelined toward me and I screamed at the top of my lungs. And now apparently our city is being taken over by Tarantulas migrating. God help me if I see one of those!

LMAO My hubby is the same way, "I'm not afraid of them, I just don't like being near them."

I'm only the tiniest bit of brave, I assure you. Dillon was quick to tell me that he's not scared so I guess he can take care of any rogue ones that charge us.

Holy cow, Roxanne. I was just reading a local outdoorsy site where you could sign up for tours to find Tarantulas in the wild. I about peed myself, I had no idea they were just cruising around outside here... Ackk.

I've never seen more spiders than when I moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Georgia. They have mutant spiders here.

We know it's spring when the inside of our house is taken over by the spider swat team! We taped a sponge to one end of a square dowel rod and that's our spider squishing stick. We smoosh them, they stick to the sponge, and we knock them off in the trash. Also great for scorpions. We've had three in the last two weeks. One change, we put duct tape, sticky side out, and get the scorpions like that, then wrap them up.

I don't. Hubby does scorpions. I just scream really loudly.

Ickk! Huge ones freak me out!! There are certain areas here in NorCal with lots of scorpions, but thankfully I have yet to see one in Santa Rosa. My friends in Vegas were have a huge problem with them last summer though. I was scared the whole time I was visiting them, lol.
