Words to Live By.... Part 2

Dillon told me that one day a man said this to him at work.  I found it hilarious....and true!  So did a friend of ours, so I stitched it for him.

Originally, it was going to appliqued to a shirt.  However, it was sitting here finished for so long with no shirt to live on.  I guess I shouldn't have delegated that task to my guy.  Every time I saw it I would feel soooooo guilty because he asked for it a really long time ago.  Finally, I made an executive decision (I love those....) and mounted it onto some foam-core I had.  That way, he can leave it on there or change it later.

I used a great tutorial that can be found on June at Noon.
Mmmmmmm, Sulky variegated thread.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it.  I wish that I would have done the wires of the fan a bit different.  They seem to get hidden in all of that fill stitch.  And I don't know how they went all wonky because I'm a sticker for tension when I'm stitching.  Oh well.
DMC has some new crazy metal(?), 3-D floss, has anyone tried that?  I was thinking about ordering some but then came across some super thin copper wire I'm going to stitch with.  I might have to do a repeat of this one with copper for the fan.

So, yeah.  This happy mail is on it's way to Vegas.  As a consolation prize for it's tardiness (and it not making it onto a shirt) I made him the "Hello, Carlo" Godfather hankie.  Maybe, that makes up for it.  I hope he likes it!

Thanks for looking!  I'll be back later with some new goodies for my shop.

Words to Live By...Part 1

I'm a huge "quote" person.  I'm always spouting off silly lines from a movie or song.  I watch my favorite shows with a notebook in hand for one liners and snarky quips.  And I have pity for anyone who watches one of my favorite movies with me after I've had a little too much to drink.  I'm horrible- I start to laugh in anticipation of funny parts or I just say them aloud along with the actor.

Since I'm like this and I know a lot of people who are, I decided to incorporate more of this trait into my stitching.  I've had a running list forever, so you guys will be seeing a lot more of these pieces.  Some pieces will be for me or friends, others will be for my etsy shop.  I'm thinking that I will make a few to swap too. (Hint, hint for all my fellow quote lovers- keep your eyes peeled!)

All of today's pieces have quotes from Godfather I & II.  Hey, I'm not called MafiosaGrrl for nothing.  All of them are stitched with black DMC onto white handkerchiefs.  The larger font uses 3 strands and the smaller font uses two strands.

Always a classic.  The good ol' Clemenza.

This next one is a bit obscure.  I made it for a friend, it's his favorite line in the first film.  It's after the baptism scene when all of the other bosses are killed.  Carlo is about to answer what happened to Sonny.  As Clemenza speaks from the backseat, Carlo knows he's going to get whacked.

And now, one of my favorite's lately.
Poor Fredo.
It's from Godfather II.  After Fredo broke Micheal's heart.

For your viewing pleasure, I've included the clip of this particular scene.
I know I shouldn't but I laugh my ass off at the line that I stitched up.

I have a bunch more in this series.  They take forever because of the font.  I'll share those when they're done.

In addition to a whole bunch of Mafia movies, I've got lots more in the works.  I've planned quote series from The Big Lebowski,  The Colbert Report, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and The Trailer Park Boys (Mrs. Evils there is a Rickyism in there with your name on it. well, not literally but you know what I mean.), just to name a few.  Then there's a ton of one-liners from random stuff.  I'm telling you, my quote list is mammoth.  And since it's not getting any smaller I have to start working on it!

What kinds of things do you like to quote?  Do you think it's annoying when people quote things often?  Do you have a favorite quote?

Thanks for looking and have a craftastic weekend!

A wise man once said....

This is my entry for the Good Cause Challenge on Craftster, highlighting Domestic Violence Awareness.  There are some amazing pieces , so be sure to go give props to all of my fellow crafters.  The other good cause was Breast Cancer Awareness.  I had a piece planned for that but I didn't get it done, I'm a naughty stitcher.  I'm still going to stitch it up, it's a lovely quote from Abraham Lincoln.
I wanted to stay away from something too personal for this challenge.  It's not that I can't put myself out there, I'm just trying to take a positive approach to all aspects of my life.  I didn't want to look at this challenge as an opportunity to dwell on something from my past.  Anyone that knows me will tell you that I bitch about all sorts of things enough, no one needs to give me a reason, ha ha.  I wanted to take it as an opportunity to bring attention to a problem in every community.  It's not just about domestic violence but violence in general.  It's a problem that affects more than just the victim and the oppressor, and it doesn't just stay in the home.  It's not a personal problem, but a community problem.  I think Martin Luther King, Jr's quote speaks to the heart of the issue.  Once people understand this basic concept we can start to address the issue of domestic violence.

(swear it's not crooked, I just can't take pictures!)

I might end up tinting it because I hate the lapels on his jacket.  And that might make them less noticeable?  However, I've never done that after the stitching was completed so I don't know how it would work out.  Any opinions for either way?     Is it just me being neurotic?  Dillon would say yes :)

Hope I didn't come off as too preachy, it's just a subject I feel strongly about.
