Helllllloooooooooo!!!!

Howdy, folks!  Long time, no post.  Truely sorry about that- I've missed you guys very much.  I'm checking in with you from lovely Free Soil, Michigan, my boy's hometown.

Between quality time getting acquainted with my new family, melting in the humidity, and taking in the scenery, I've been doing a lot of stitching.  So, get ready for new projects very soon.

In the meantime, did I tell you the good news?!  I've been selected for the July Project and Interview in the Needlework section on Craftster!

 
As most of you guys already know, I love Craftster- with a passion.  In fact, it's how I got back into crafting after many years and I "met" a lot of my online crafty friends.  It's full of talented people with nothing but nice things to say.  There are tons of great projects that will amuse and inspire you.  If it's not already a part of your daily online routine, change that right away.

A wise man once said....

This is my entry for the Good Cause Challenge on Craftster, highlighting Domestic Violence Awareness.  There are some amazing pieces , so be sure to go give props to all of my fellow crafters.  The other good cause was Breast Cancer Awareness.  I had a piece planned for that but I didn't get it done, I'm a naughty stitcher.  I'm still going to stitch it up, it's a lovely quote from Abraham Lincoln.

I wanted to stay away from something too personal for this challenge.  It's not that I can't put myself out there, I'm just trying to take a positive approach to all aspects of my life.  I didn't want to look at this challenge as an opportunity to dwell on something from my past.  Anyone that knows me will tell you that I bitch about all sorts of things enough, no one needs to give me a reason, ha ha.  I wanted to take it as an opportunity to bring attention to a problem in every community.  It's not just about domestic violence but violence in general.  It's a problem that affects more than just the victim and the oppressor, and it doesn't just stay in the home.  It's not a personal problem, but a community problem.  I think Martin Luther King, Jr's quote speaks to the heart of the issue.  Once people understand this basic concept we can start to address the issue of domestic violence.

I might end up tinting it because I hate the lapels on his jacket.  And that might make them less noticeable?  However, I've never done that after the stitching was completed so I don't know how it would work out.  Any opinions for either way?     Is it just me being neurotic?  Dillon would say yes :)

Hope I didn't come off as too preachy, it's just a subject I feel strongly about.

Oh yes I did! I'm a huge Mary Roach fan, so much so that I'm afraid I'll be one of "those" people one day. You know the ones- they show up at a book signing and proceed to make an ass
out of themselves, exclaiming too enthusiastically, "I'm your biggest fan!" Her books are laugh out loud funny, hard to put down and guaranteed to be memorable. If you haven't read them you must turn off your computer and get one in your hands ASAP.
This little guy appeared in her latest Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex. Don't want to get into it too much; I'll leave it at- cotton vs. polyester?

Just black floss on unbleached, cotton muslin. I used two strands for everything, except the whiskers are one strand and the undies are three strands- for a little more texture.

His little drawstrings look like antennas! This was so quick and easy to stitch up,
I might do a series. Fancy undies! Questions, comments and rude remarks are always welcome!

Kyle's Custom Towels

Kyle requested these...such a long time ago too. I finally got around to making them last week. I was trying to avoid that damn Terry cloth. I'll take metallic floss over terry cloth any day! I feel like the lettering is a bit wonky...especially on the Whores one. I'll just have to chalk that up to the nature of the materials, oh well. Kyle insisted they were great and he'll display them for his lovely guests, ha ha.
